Overview

The DEVELON DX220LCA-2 is a 20.8-ton crawler excavator designed for daily excavation, loading and material handling work across construction, infrastructure and bulk earthwork projects. Powered by the DEVELON DB58TIS engine rated at 109 kW at 1,800 rpm, it is suited to contractors who need reliable production without excessive fuel consumption. 

Its combination of a heavy-duty front structure, proven hydraulic systems and simplified operator controls makes it practical for long working hours in demanding site conditions. The machine is also configured to support breaker applications where regular rock breaking or demolition work forms part of the workflow. 

Applications

  • Construction & Civil Engineering: Road building, bulk earthworks, dam construction, and infrastructure projects (the kind driven by SANRAL, municipalities, and private developers) are ideal. The size is productive without being unwieldy on constrained sites. 
  • Mining Support: Trenching for services, ramp preparation, and material handling around smaller operations, including platinum, chrome, and coal mine infrastructure.

The enhanced main pump, optimized lever control and auto idle system help reduce unnecessary fuel consumption by matching engine and hydraulic demand more effectively during operation and standby conditions. 

Reinforced castings, forged steel pivot points and strengthened boom and arm structures are engineered to withstand high-impact material handling and demanding excavation conditions on heavy-duty job sites. 

The spacious cab layout, redesigned joystick controls and simplified monitor system allow operators to access frequently used functions quickly, helping reduce distraction and improve operational focus during long shifts.
